📝 The state of Michigan has prohibited salary history bans and local governments cannot regulate information employers request, require, or exclude on an application for employment, or during the interview process.
✅ In general , you can ask for salary history with the following exceptions:
❌ State departments and certain autonomous agencies cannot:
Ask about salary history until a conditional offer of employment is extended
Ask current / prior employers or search public records to ascertain an applicant’s current / previous salary
Consider information already known or inadvertently discovered
